October 2022 Employee of the Month

“I always believe that whatever the situation a person is in now, nothing is permanent and that everything will eventually change. Whether you are in your darkest moment today, I always believe that there will be a brighter tomorrow that awaits soon. So, if you are in your worst situation today, just be positive and prepare for the blessings later or if you are in a better position today, always be prepared to face challenges in the days to come. So, whatever the situation you are in today enjoy each of that moment because nothing stays the same”. — Mr. Diosdado Cubelo

Mr. Dado is the youngest of the two siblings of Mr. Diosdado Cabafiez Cubelo and Mrs. Lydia Ybafiez Cubelo. He has an older sister who is married and living with his husband separately while Mr. Dado stayed with his parents for all the years until now. He came from a financially challenged family, his father was a house painter in his younger years while his mother was doing a lot of other jobs from being an ordinary housewife like being a tailor, a “sari-sari store vendor” and a supplier of “kakanin” or snacks to an elementary school canteen nearby their house which played a major role to raise them and to provide their needs especially the need for his education.

His mother strongly believed that they can’t give their children a more important inheritance in life but just the value of completing their education which will give them a fighting chance to have a better life since they too have nothing much to give. And it turns out perfectly as she was telling them before. Mr. Dado was very thankful to his parent’s hard work and sacrifices, which at some point they even decided to sell the only piece of property they have which they lived in his early years as a kid to support their basic needs and education. Now at his aged of 33 he is happily married to his beautiful wife Mrs. Sarlen R. Cubelo and is living together with his parents as he thought of a better way to show his gratitude to them but by staying by their side taking care of them personally now as they are getting older and slower by aging.

He finished his elementary at Matina Aplaya Elementary School, the same school where his mother used to supply “kakanin” or snacks in the school canteen. At a young age he is already aware of their situation, that they need to work as much as they can to survive and to continue their education. Back in those days he and his older sister helped their parents in preparing the “kakanin” or snacks in the evening which will be sold for the next day at the school canteen before they can get to work for their individual school assignments. This work becomes a routine for them until they finished college at Holy Cross of Davao College Inc. His older sister graduated as a Student Assistant and Mr. Dado as a benefactor of a government college financial assistance. He was also blessed to avail a full scholarship for his review classes in preparation in taking the Licensure Examination for customs Brokers for the year 2010 from his employer after he had his OJT (On the Job) training in the brokerage firm and after graduating in the same year.

He had a lot of work experiences before as a part — time worker while he was still studying from college from being a part-time service crew worker of some fast-food chain (Jollibee and Dencio’s Restaurant) here in the city to being a part — time office staff of EMCOR Appliance Plaza during summer. He had his first full-time work at a brokerage firm where he also took his OJT training the same year, he graduated college for Four years (2010 to 2014) immediately after he passed the board exam for customs brokers last 2010. He worked in that brokerage firm as a declarant and a signing customs broker. His days as academician started last 2012 when he started to work as a part-time college professor teaching professional subjects at the Holy Cross of Davao College.

He also became the Program Head for the Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration program of Mindanao Aeronautical Technical School or MATS College of Technology for four years since 2015 to 2019. He started up his own customs brokerage firm last 2016 together with some of his co-workers before and is now a shareholder in one of a trucking company operating in Davao City. And now he is so privileged to be part of the LPU Davao family as a full-time college professor and the current program chair for the Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration program.

He is very happy for the privilege given to him by the LPU Davao Administration and staff to be part of the family. For the confidence, the school entrusted him being the Program Chair of BSCA program and to have a chance to mold, encourage and inspire future customs brokers that he once dreamed of becoming before, gives him the feeling of fulfillment and happiness.

He wanted to tell the students that despite the situation that all of us is facing today amidst the covid -19 pandemic to inflammation and double inflation brought about by factors that most of us doesn’t have control of I just wanted to say to every student of the LPU Davao that you are all lucky and privileged enough to be part and go to a prestigious school such us LPU Davao. While others are just dreaming to go to school such as what you have now, you are very fortunate enough that your parents and guardians are able to enroll you in one of the most prestigious schools not just in Davao City but throughout the country as well. Please find time to show your gratitude and appreciations to them and maximize your potential while enjoying your school days here in LPU Davao.
